We’ve been settling into the Forest House for a little over a month now and, not surprisingly, we already have our first major project in the works! Dun dunn dunnnn – the basement!
Since I’m from Florida, the land where having a basement is about as likely as commuting to work each day riding atop atop a saddled manatee, getting an actual basement in the Forest House is pretty spectacular. In Florida, you park your junk in the garage. But in Georgia, cars go in the garage (what the what?!?!) and the aforementioned junk goes into the basement. There’s no turning back now folks!
Chris is about to start a new job (online FTW!) and he’ll need a dedicated office space. Since the main floor of the house is a little smaller than we’re used to (1600 sq ft or so), and we aren’t sure about the potential for the unfinished room over the garage, we decided to build out the very unfinished basement.
Chris and I agreed that we will be all legit for this build and get everything permitted. So, I drew up some plans (after quite a bit of back and forth on space utilization). Some of this may end up changing (wall placement in particular), so we’ll see.
NOTE: I drew up these plans using a combination of Room Sketcher and then manipulated everything in Photoshop.
Once we get the go-ahead from the city permit office, we will start on this new reno project!
