When we bought the Forest house, we knew that it didn’t have enough space for Chris and I to both work from home. However, there was some untapped potential – an unfinished basement and some attic space that we might be able to reclaim. In the meantime, I took the unused “dining room” (in quotation because it’s barely a room) as a temporary office. We eventually built Chris an office in our finished basement, but my temporary solution was becoming more permanent than I’d hoped. Moral of this story? Melissa needs an office y’all!
Enter the FROG solution! FROG stands for Finished Room Over Garage, and it perfectly describes the potential space we hope to reclaim in the attic. Some of the floor plans in our neighborhood have finished bedrooms and bathrooms over the garage, but our house didn’t even have stairs to access this space.
See all that insulation? We had to crawl over that, launch ourselves over the A/C handler, and try not to fall through the ceiling to get this picture. And see those cross boards at the ceiling? Chris has already hit his head like 15 times on those.
Looking towards the front of the house, you can see that there are studs, some floor joists, and a window. Not exactly usable space currently. Whomp whomp.
When completed, this 14′ x 22′ Finished Room Over Garage (FROG) might allow us to build an office and maybe even a design space for our projects. hmmmm….[strums fingers together in thought] Sold!
I drew up the plans. Chris submitted the plans to the city for a permit. It. Is. Happening.
